The Australian Passport Office asks for a photo 35 to 40 mm wide and 45 to 50 mm high, with the chin-to-crown measurement between 32 and 36 mm. Its guidelines require professionally printed photos and say there must be no editing and no removal or replacement of the background, so this page is a crop guide and a size reference only.

How it works
Add your photo
Use a sharp photo taken straight on, in even light, against a plain light wall. It opens on your device and is never uploaded.
Crop with the guides
Move and zoom until the head sits between the two ovals. The crop frame already has the right shape.

Questions
What size is an Australian passport photo?
35 to 40 mm wide and 45 to 50 mm high, with the face 32 to 36 mm from chin to crown. The tool uses 35 × 45 mm.
Can I edit or change the background?
No. The Australian Passport Office says there must be no editing, retouching or filters, and no removal or replacement of the background.
Can I print my own passport photo?
The guidelines call for professionally printed photos on glossy, heavy paper, so this page only shows the size and crop guide.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. PhotoFit crops, resizes and lays out your photo in your browser. The photo never leaves your device.
Will my photo be accepted?
No tool can promise that. This one sets the size, shape, file size and sheet layout from a published specification. Head size, expression, lighting, background and recency are your responsibility, and the authority makes the final decision.
How many photos fit on a 4 × 6 inch sheet?
Six 2 × 2 inch photos, or eight 35 × 45 mm photos. Pick a sheet in the tool to see the exact count and a preview, and choose how many copies you want.
What is the difference between online upload and print?
Online upload makes a JPEG with the pixel size and file size an upload form allows. Print makes a larger file at 300 dpi for a given paper size, and the print sheet arranges several copies on one page.
Why is my country not listed?
A country is listed only when its photo rules can be confirmed on an official government page. India and the Schengen area are not listed because no single current official specification could be confirmed.
What does the background option do?
It turns a plain, light wall white. It cannot cut you out of a busy background, and it counts as editing the photo. Some authorities do not accept edited photos, so check first.
